Perth’s Rising Crime

Perth's Rising Crime 2

It’s a scary thing to think about, but criminal activity in Western Australia is on the rise. The number of crimes committed each day has increased year on year to a shocking average of 600 crimes per day in 2015 – that’s one every two minutes!

One particular offence that has been on the rise is offence against property. A report from February this year even named WA as the home invasion capital of Australia. So why are home burglaries on the rise? And where are the trouble spots in Perth?

Hot Spots

In a recent report, Armadale was named the worst suburb for home burglaries in 2015. Other suburbs with high rates of break-ins included Gosnells, Baldivis, Balga and Rockingham. What makes these numbers scarier, is the fact that many of the same suburbs (Armadale, Gosnells and Rockingham) are also some of the worst suburbs for assaults, alongside Fremantle, Midland and Northbridge.

If you’re living in one of these areas, you will want to be extra vigilant about protecting your house and prioritising your personal safety.

How to Prevent a Break-in

When discussing the rise in home contents claims following burglaries, one insurance manager said many break-ins occurred simply because doors or windows were left unlocked. Even some candid interviews with thieves themselves revealed a similar story: that home break-ins are often opportunistic and thieves will target houses which are easy to get into. If getting into a house looks like it will take longer than 15 minutes, thieves will usually give up.

The message seems to be clear across the board: If you want to prevent a break-in – lock up! At Efficient Lock and Key, we understand the importance of a good quality lock in preventing break-ins, which is why we offer top quality lock installation including deadbolt installation.

We also service areas across Perth, including many of the trouble suburbs mentioned earlier, such as Armadale, Fremantle and Gosnells plus many more. So if you need a good locksmith to protect your home and family, give us a call today.
